Improvements to Lake Victoria Barn Swallow Viewing Site 2012

Improvements to Lake Victoria Barn Swallow Viewing Site

With the donations received from the Barn swallow entrance donation box the Mount Moreland Conservancy embarked on some much needed improvements to the Lake Victoria Viewing Site.
Micheal Hickman kindly sprayed the top bank to eliminate the weeds. The Mount Moreland Conservancy then employed local labour to hand shape the bank, cutting back and using river boulders that came out of the site to create seating and a rockery wall. A variety of indigenous plants were used and by the time the opening of the 2012-2013 Barn Swallow season ( mid October) all should be looking very presentable.

Invasive plant species were removed with attention and additions made all along the road side site entrance and half way down the left boundary. Tongaat Hulett Agriculture donated compost and fertilizer to help nourish the newly planted gardens.

Thank you to all whom donated on entry to the Swallow Viewing Site your contributions help us improve and maintain the viewing site.
