The Birth of the Return of the Swallows Event - 22 October 1995
Welcome to this newly celebrated event, the first of its kind for Mount Moreland and presented to you by the Lake Victoria Conservancy in the
hope of creating interest and awareness to a truly wonderful sight.
OUTLINE: Mount Moreland is surrounded by natural wetlands, Lake Victoria, Froggy Pond
and the Mdloti river flows past. This area has become home to hundreds if not thousands of Barn
Swallows, so much so that one could say a phenomenon of Swallows.
Over the past few years the Barn Swallows have been monitored by Ted
Vickers, a fellow Mount Moreland and proprietor of SA Birders Log, a computer program used to log/record bird
The Barn Swallows arrival is around the first few weeks in October, this year the first sightings were on 11
October 1995. The swallows can be seen in full mass from now through to their departure early in April.
